Program for IFR instrument flights in single engine plane.

ir-1This training program is mandatory for candidates for professional pilots and recommended for all amateur pilots who intend to perform long flights with private plane.

Theoretical training

Approved training organisations are "Private College of Transportation", "Technical University" and "Sofia Flight Training" all in Sofia.

To license the applicant should take exams in DG "CAA" in English. The exam dates are published on the website of "CAA". On the theoretical exam the candidates demonstrate a level of theoretical knowledge. (FCL.615 IR), corresponding to the rights granted in the following subjects: Air Law, Aircraft General Knowledge - Instrumentation, flight planning and control, human capabilities, meteorology, navigation, communications rules in instrument flight (IFR)

Flight training

Requirements for starting the flight training:

  • Minimum age - 18 years.
  • Satisfactory knowledge of English.
  • A valid pilot license PPL (A), CPL (A) or ATPL for other type of aircraft.
  • Have at least 50 hours of flight time on a route as commanders of airplanes, helicopters or airships of which at least 10 hours (20 hours for airships) must be on a plane.
  • VFR Night qualification check.
  • Completed course for theoretical training ATPL or IR (A).
  • Certificate of medical worthiness Class 1 - certificate should be issued by another CAMO or European specialized medical center.
  • Copy of diploma education / secondary or higher /.
  • Copy of ID Card.

The program includes a 50:20 hours of flight training with instructor on airplanes P2008JC MKII, equipped for IFR flights.

The course consists of two sub modules:

Basic module for instrument flights, including:

  • Flights in the area to learn about the basics of instrument flight without external visual cues and use of radar equipment NDB, VOR / DME, ILS.
  • IFR schemes at the airport.
  • Use of radio navigation and FMS.

Procedural module for instrument flights, including:

Standard procedures for departure, flight route, arrival and landing under IFR using NDB, VOR, DME, ILS and FMS.

The applicant is given - the program for flight training with the development of each exercise. Before proceeding to the exercises in the program, the instructor conducts lectures to acquaint the student with the rules of flights on IFR.

After each flight the instructor conducts post-flight briefing for analyzing the exercise, the degree of success of the student, identifying errors and ways to prevent them.

After successful completion of the flight program the applicant is conducts a flight test with duration of 01:30 hours with the examiner appointed by DG "CAA". During the examination the student should demonstrate confidence in flight under IFR to an International Airport and must properly conduct radio conversations in English.
